Once delivered to our lab, we inventory your tapes, run hardware 60fps digitization, and send you a private cloud download link. Your original tapes are shipped back safely packaged.
Why does 60fps matter for VHS tapes?
Analog video was recorded at 60 interlaced fields per second. Most budget conversion services throw away half the temporal information and mash the fields into a 30fps file. This creates jagged horizontal comb lines whenever anything moves. We capture both fields discretely and convert them into true 60 progressive frames per second. It restores fluid motion and edge clarity, making family videos look clear and lifelike on modern 4K TVs and phones.
What if some of my tapes are blank or damaged?
You are never charged for blank tapes or unplayable static. We review every tape during intake. If a tape is completely empty, damaged beyond recovery, or contains commercial TV recordings you did not want, we mark it at zero dollars and return it with the rest of your collection.
How much does digitization cost?
Standard tape digitization is $20 per tape. This includes manual inspection, hardware time-base correction playback, discrete 60fps progressive deinterlacing, digital file encoding, and cloud delivery. Slide scanning is $1 per frame, and audio cassettes are $20 each. There are no hidden fees or setup charges.
What is the turnaround time for mail-in orders?
Standard turnaround for most collections (5 to 20 tapes) is 7 to 10 business days from the moment your package arrives at our lab. You will receive an immediate intake notification when your box arrives, followed by your cloud download link as soon as processing completes. Return shipping of your originals follows immediately.
